Boucherouite rugs are a riot of colour — pinks, blues, reds and yellows — all jostling for attention in wildly exuberant patterns, sometimes geometric, sometimes totally abstract. Boucherouite is a Moroccan term for “rag”. Typically, these colourful rugs were made from a wide variety of recycled textile rags.

They were made for domestic use in Berber homes and are quite unlike new ones, which are all produced in co-operative workshops for the Moroccan tourist market.
